Instructions
Step 1: Warm the milk and butter in a saucepan until melted and warm (not boiling). Add sugar and yeast, let sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
Step 2: In a mixing bowl, combine the warm milk mixture with the beaten egg and red gel food coloring. Mix well.
Step 3: In another bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, and salt. Gradually add to the wet mixture until a dough forms.
Step 4: Knead the dough on a floured surface for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Add more flour if too sticky.
Step 5: Shape the dough into a ball, place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1-1.5 hours until doubled.
Step 6: Punch down the dough, roll out into a rectangle, and sprinkle chocolate chips on top.
Step 7: Roll the dough tightly from one edge, pinch the seam, and cut into 12 pieces.
Step 8: Place rolls in a greased baking dish, cover, and let rise for 30-45 minutes until puffed.
Step 9: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake rolls for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
Step 10: Let cool slightly before serving. Optionally drizzle with cream cheese frosting.
