Ingredients

Ingredients

  • 1 lb Breakfast sausage Your choice of brand, ensure it’s suitable.
  • 1 loaf French bread Cut into cubes.
  • 3 cups Milk
  • 8 large Eggs
  • ½ teaspoon Salt
  • 3 tablespoons Brown sugar Divided.
  • 6 tablespoons Maple syrup Divided.

Instructions

  • Step 1: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). In a large skillet over medium heat, add the breakfast sausage. Cook until browned and fully cooked, breaking it apart as it cooks. Drain excess grease and set aside.
  • Step 2: In a large mixing bowl, place the cubes of French bread. Pour the cooked sausage over the bread, ensuring even distribution.
  • Step 3: In another large bowl, whisk together the milk, eggs, salt, 1 tablespoon of brown sugar, and 2 tablespoons of maple syrup until well combined and frothy.
  • Step 4: Pour the custard mixture over the bread and sausage. Gently stir to ensure the bread is evenly coated. Let it sit for about 10-15 minutes.
  • Step 5: Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish. Transfer the mixture into the baking dish, spreading it out evenly. Sprinkle the remaining 2 tablespoons of brown sugar across the top.
  • Step 6: Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for about 45-50 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a knife inserted in the center comes out clean.
  • Step 7: Once baked, remove from the oven and let it cool slightly. Drizzle the remaining maple syrup over the top.
  • Step 8: Slice into squares and serve warm. Enjoy as is or top with fresh fruit, whipped cream, or more maple syrup.
