  • 1.25 cups Granulated sugar
  • 0.5 cup Unsalted butter, melted and cooled slightly
  • 0.125 teaspoon Salt
  • 2 cups 2% milk, warmed
  • 1 tablespoon Vanilla extract
  • 1 cup All-purpose flour
  • Powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions

  • Step 1: Preheat your oven to 325°F (160°C) and grease an 8-inch square baking dish.
  • Step 2: Separate the egg yolks from the whites and whisk the yolks until pale and creamy.
  • Step 3: In the bowl with the yolks, add granulated sugar and melted butter, whisking until smooth.
  • Step 4: Gradually add warmed milk and vanilla extract to the yolk mixture, whisking continuously.
  • Step 5: Sift in flour and salt, mixing until you have a smooth batter.
  • Step 6: Beat the egg whites until stiff peaks form.
  • Step 7: Gently fold the beaten egg whites into the batter using a spatula.
  • Step 8: Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish and bake for 40-45 minutes.
  • Step 9: Let the cake cool for at least 30 minutes and dust with powdered sugar before slicing.
