Ingredients

Ingredients

  • 15.25 ounces German chocolate cake mix (1 box)
  • ¾ cup butter melted
  • 1 cup milk divided
  • 11 ounces soft caramels
  • 1 cup sweetened coconut flakes
  • 1 cup pecans chopped
  • 1.5 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  • Step 1: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13 inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.
  • Step 2: In a large mixing bowl, combine the German chocolate cake mix with the melted butter and ½ cup of milk. Mix until just combined. Spread this mixture evenly in the prepared pan, pressing it down with your fingertips.
  • Step 3: In a small saucepan over low heat, melt the soft caramels with ½ cup of milk, stirring until smooth. Alternatively, use the microwave in 30-second intervals until melted and creamy.
  • Step 4: Pour the melted caramel evenly over the cookie base. Sprinkle the sweetened coconut flakes, chopped pecans, and semi-sweet chocolate chips over the caramel layer, pressing them down gently.
  • Step 5: Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, until the edges are slightly golden and the center is set but still soft.
  • Step 6: Allow the bars to cool in the pan on a wire rack for at least 20 minutes before slicing. For cleaner cuts, refrigerate for an hour.
