Ingredients

Pasta

  • 12 ounces egg noodles

Cooking Oil

Chicken

  • 2 pieces boneless skinless chicken breasts cut into bite-sized pieces

Onions

  • 2 large yellow onions or white onions, thinly sliced

Flour

  • ¼ cup all-purpose flour

Garlic

  • 3 cloves garlic minced

Milk

  • 2.5 cups milk

Cream

  • ½ cup heavy cream

Thyme

  • 1 teaspoon fresh thyme minced

Cheese

  • 1 cup Swiss cheese shredded

Bread Crumbs

  • 1 cup Panko bread crumbs

Butter

  • 2 tablespoons butter melted

Fried Onions

  • 1 cup French’s fried onions

Garnish

  • to taste fresh parsley chopped

Instructions

  • Step 1: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Cook the egg noodles in a large pot of salted boiling water until al dente, then drain and set aside.
  • Step 2: In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chicken pieces and cook until golden brown, about 5-7 minutes. Remove and set aside.
  • Step 3: In the same skillet, melt the butter and sauté the onions until caramelized, about 15-20 minutes.
  • Step 4: Sprinkle flour over the onions, stir, and cook for 2 minutes. Add garlic and cook for another minute. Gradually stir in milk and cream until thickened.
  • Step 5: Combine the chicken, thyme, and noodles with the onion mixture, stirring until well mixed.
  • Step 6: Transfer to a greased 9x13-inch baking dish and sprinkle with Swiss cheese.
  • Step 7: Mix Panko crumbs with melted butter and sprinkle over the cheese, then top with fried onions.
  • Step 8: Bake for 25-30 minutes until bubbly and golden brown.
  • Step 9: Let cool slightly, garnish with parsley, and serve.
