  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon granulated sugar
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 piece bay leaf
  • 1 teaspoon fennel seed

Instructions

  • Step 1: Gather all your ingredients on the countertop. Chop the yellow onion, celery, and garlic beforehand.
  • Step 2: In a medium saucepan over medium heat, add the olive oil and butter. Once melted, add the chopped onion and celery. Sauté for 3-4 minutes until soft.
  • Step 3: Stir in the chopped garlic and sauté for an additional 1-2 minutes without browning.
  • Step 4: Add the tomato sauce and tomato paste, stirring until well combined and bubbling gently.
  • Step 5: Mix in the parmesan cheese, dried basil, oregano, salt, sugar, black pepper, bay leaf, and fennel seeds.
  • Step 6: Lower the heat and let the sauce simmer for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Step 7: Remove from heat, discard the bay leaf, and serve on your favorite pizza dough.
