Description

Sweet, crunchy, and slightly spiced candied pecans that make the perfect snack or topping for salads and desserts.


Ingredients

  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup light brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 1 egg white from a large egg
  • 1 teaspoon water
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 pound (450g) or 4 cups pecans (untoasted)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together egg white, water, and vanilla extract until frothy.
  3. In a separate bowl, mix granulated sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt.
  4. Add pecans to the egg white mixture and toss to coat.
  5. Gradually sprinkle the sugar mixture over the pecans, tossing to ensure even coating.
  6. Spread pecans evenly on the baking sheet.
  7. Bake for 25 minutes, stirring halfway through for even cooking.
  8. Allow pecans to cool completely on the baking sheet before storing in an airtight container.

Notes

For a spicier twist, add a pinch of cayenne pepper. Keep an eye on the pecans while baking to prevent burning.
